School Activities
Gaelic Football
Gaelic Football for boys and girls was the most popular sport in our school. Weekly coaching sessions were arranged after school and our school teams participated in the Cumann na mBunscol primary schools leagues. Sixth Class pupils also represented us at Inter County Blitzes and Skills Challenges. Our local club, St Fechin's GFC, and Louth GAA supported the development of young players by arranging additional coaching sessions in the skills of Gaelic Football in our school.
Hurling
The game of hurling has become very popular in our area in recent years due to great work being done at club level by St. Fechin's GFC. There were regular coaching sessions for our hurlers at school and we entered a school team in the Cumann na mBunscol Primary Schools League. Third class pupils participated in a fun blitz in St. Fechins.
Soccer
Our boys and girls’ soccer teams participated in The FAI 5 Aside Primary Soccer Blitz in DKIT in March as well as other competitions organised by Drogheda United and DIFE College.
Basketball
Throughout the year, all classes from 1st - 6th had a chance to enjoy basketball coaching with the Drogheda Wolves. They developed their passing, catching, dribbling and scoring skills as well as participating in lots of fun games. A team from 6th class participated in a Blitz in DIFE College in May.
Running
Teams of children from 3rd - 6th participated in the Tullyallen Cross Country Competition in October 2024. They trained at lunchtimes and after school and represented us proudly on the day!
Chess
In recent years the pupils in our school have developed a great interest in the game of chess. Many of the senior pupils participate in the School Chess Club and there is regular coaching by experienced chess players. The school team plays in the Drogheda Primary Schools Chess League. Our teams also play in Ficheall tournaments. Ficheall.ie organise fun and inclusive chess tournaments between local schools every year. There are also competitions played in our school during the months of winter and spring. Many of our pupils continue to play the game when they graduate to secondary school.
Music & Choir
For pupils who have an interest in music, there are after-school classes in Guitar. We are fortunate to have a number of very talented musicians on our teaching staff and instrumental music classes for pupils throughout the year.
Children who enjoy singing also had the opportunity to join our school choir. The local community have the opportunity to hear the children in our school choir at First Communion and Confirmation each year as well as other church services.
